▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A company of the former peoples 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
