The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
