The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
