Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Join My servants. 29 enter My Paradise! 30
