The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
