He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
