The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
