Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 being perverse; Gehenna shall be their promised land all together. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
