Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
