Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and arranged cushions 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
Almighty Allah's Truth.
