Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
