The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
