For [thus it was:] when We told the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam!" - they all prostrated themselves, save Ibis, who refused [to do it]; 116 We said, "Adam, [Satan] is an enemy to you and to your wife. Let him not turn you both out of Paradise and thus make you come to grief. 117 "There is therein (enough provision) for thee not to go hungry nor to go naked, 118 and that thou shalt not thirst here or suffer from the heat of the sun." 119 But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? 120 Then they both ate of it, so their evil inclinations became manifest to them, and they both began to cover themselves with leaves of the garden, and Adam disobeyed his Lord, so his life became evil (to him). 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 'Both of you, together, go down out of it (the Garden) each of you an enemy to the other' He said: 'but, if My Guidance comes to you, whosoever follows My Guidance shall neither go astray nor be unprosperous; 123 But whosoever turns away from this Admonition from Me shall have a straitened life; We shall raise him blind on the Day of Resurrection," 124 [And so, on Resurrection Day, the sinner] will ask: "O my Sustainer! Why hast Thou raised me up blind, whereas [on earth] I was endowed with sight?" 125 [Allah] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten." 126 And thus do We requite him who transgresses beyond bounds [i.e. commits the great sins and disobeys his Lord (Allah) and believes not in His Messengers, and His revealed Books, like this Quran, etc.], and believes not in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, and the torment of the Hereafter is far more severe and more lasting. 127 Does it not then direct them aright how many of the generations In whose dwelling-places they go about We destroyed before them? Most surely there are signs in this for those endowed with understanding. 128
