The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
