(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard, 34 “He wishes to expel you out of your land by his magic; so what is your advice?” 35 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait a while, and send unto all cities heralds 36 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 37 So the magicians were gathered together at the appointed time on the fixed day, 38 And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- 39 so that we might follow [in the footsteps of] the sorcerers if it is they who prevail?" 40 And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners? 41 He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.' 42 Moses said to them: 'Cast down what you cast' 43 Thereupon they threw down their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall prevail." 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 Then the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all." 49 They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 50 We are eager that Our Lord should forgive us our offenses, for we are the first of the believers' 51
