The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
