In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
