And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So you and your deities 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 we are the rangers, 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 They used to say: 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
