The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 in which you are now living 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
