The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
