20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
