The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
