The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
