By the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning unto humankind 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
