He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
