The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
