The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
