He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
