۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
