The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 who guard their privates 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
