The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
