The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
God the Almighty always says the truth.
