Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
