۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
