He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
