He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
