Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
