[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 Within gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
