The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
