The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
