The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
