Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
