Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
