The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 and taught to him 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
