The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
