Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a high Garden. 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
