Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
