The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
