Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (This is) a chapter which We have revealed and made obligatory and in which We have revealed clear communications that you may be mindful. 1 The fornicatress and the fornicator -- scourge each one of them a hundred stripes, and in the matter of God's religion let no tenderness for them seize you if you believe in God and the Last Day; and let a party of the believers witness their chastisement. 2 The adulterer marries not but an adulteress or a Mushrikah and the adulteress none marries her except an adulterer or a Muskrik [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely he is either an adulterer, or a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater, etc.) And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater) or an adulterer, then she is either a prostitute or a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan, or idolatress, etc.)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers (of Islamic Monotheism). 3 And those who accuse clean women and then bring not four eyewitnesses, scourge them with eighty stripes and accept not their testimony forever. And these! they are the transgressors 4 Save those who afterward repent and make amends. (For such) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And (as for) those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, the evidence of one of these (should be taken) four times, bearing Allah to witness that he is most surely of the truthful ones. 6 and the fifth time, that God's curse be upon him if he is telling a lie. 7 And it shall avert the punishment from her if she bear witness before Allah four times that the thing he saith is indeed false, 8 Her fifth oath being that the curse of God be on her if her husband should be speaking the truth. 9 And had it not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy unto you, and that Allah is Clement, Wise, (ye had been undone). 10
