The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
